Configure your SMS provider

Edited

Overview

Use the Integrations feature in the Next Identity Console to connect an external SMS service to the platform. Each environment (Development, Testing, Production, etc.) can have one active SMS provider responsible for delivering text messages, including verification codes and other user notifications.

By default, Next Identity SMS Service is available for testing purposes. For production environments, you must configure an external SMS provider such as Telesign, Twilio, Plivo, or Vonage.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Integrations feature in the Next Identity Console.

  • Appropriate user role with permission to view or edit integrations.

  • Credentials for your chosen SMS provider (e.g., API key).

Steps

1. View Existing SMS Integrations

  1. Open the Integrations section from the left menu.

  2. Locate the SMS category.

  3. Select View Details to see all SMS integrations.

2. Add a New SMS Integration

  1. In the SMS Integrations list, select New Integration.

  2. Follow the two-step setup process:

    Step 1: Select Provider

    • Choose from Telesign, Twilio, Plivo, or Vonage.

    Step 2: Configure Integration

    • Enter the integration name and required credentials.

    • To make this your default provider, enable the Set as Default option and select the target environments.

  3. Select Save to complete the integration setup.

Important:
Choose which SMS service will send text messages to your customers for each environment. Only one SMS provider can be active per environment.
The Next Identity SMS Service is available for testing only. For Production environments, you must use an external provider. If no SMS provider is configured, any feature that relies on text messaging may not work correctly.

3. Set an Integration as Default for an Environment

  1. In the SMS Integrations list, locate the integration you want to assign.

  2. Select Set Default Provider.

  3. In the modal, choose the environment(s) where this integration will be used.

  4. Select Save.

Each environment can only have one active provider. Setting a new default replaces the previous one.

4. Edit an Existing SMS Integration

  1. In the SMS Integrations list, select the edit button (pencil icon) next to the integration.

  2. Update the details (e.g., name, API key).

  3. Select Save.

5. Delete an SMS Integration

  1. In the SMS Integrations list, select the delete button (trash icon) next to the integration.

  2. Confirm the deletion in the dialog.

Note:
You cannot delete an integration currently active in any environment. Unassign it first before deleting.

What Happens Next

Once your SMS provider is configured and assigned to an environment, all system-generated text messages—such as authentication codes—will be sent using the selected integration. If no provider is configured, SMS-related features will not function correctly.
